We were proud to host another Macmillan Coffee Morning in the Holmes Media office this year to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support – and enjoy a few baked goodies along the way!
Macmillan Coffee Mornings have become an annual event in the Holmes Media office. Last year we raised £119.50 and we couldn’t wait to get baking again with the aim of raising even more money for Macmillan.
Our Coffee Morning took place on a Monday and with a table of treats waiting in the office, it made getting out of bed after the weekend much easier. With sweet and savoury treats on offer, there was something for everyone.
The plan was for one employee to be named ‘Star Baker’ and awarded a prize but our judges couldn’t pick a winner as everything was simply too tasty, so all the bakers went home with a prize.
As well as buying the baked goods, staff added more money to the pot by getting involved with games too: ‘Guess the Number of Berries in the Pie’ and ‘Dunk the Biscuit in the Cuppa’.
First up was the ‘Guess the Number of Berries in the Pie’ sweepstake which saw a wide range of guesses of anywhere between 200 and 1,000 berries. In the end, Digital Marketing Executive, Laura, took the prize with a guess that was only 13 off the actual number – berry impressive!
‘Dunk the Biscuit in the Cuppa’ was a bit more physical as staff were given a paper biscuit (to the disappointment of some…) and simply had to stick it as close to a picture of a mug as possible. It wasn’t as simple as it sounds though, as contestants were blindfolded and spun around like a whisk in a mixing bowl.
Our UX Designer, David, managed to get his biscuit closest to the mug, winning the award for ‘Best Dunker’.
Thanks to the staff being as generous as ever, we were able to raise £79.19 which was then kindly matched by the company, giving us a grand total of £158.38 – beating last year’s total by £38.88!
We’re already thinking about what we can bake next year!
Macmillan is a great charity that provides physical, financial and emotional support to anyone diagnosed with cancer as well as offering support to loved ones too.
Hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning is a lot of fun and it’s all for a great cause, so why not host your own? Visit the Macmillan website to find out how you can raise money with your very own Macmillan Coffee Morning.
