Holmes Media is David's baby. He's spent the last ten years building it up to become one of the country's leading online lead generators. Affectionately known in the office as The Generator, David's super powers include affiliate marketing, online lead generation and keeping us on our toes. Friendly, approachable and pretty awesome as bosses go (and no, he didn't make us say that!) David is proud of the company he's built up, and enjoys watching it go from strength to strength.

What did you want to be growing up?

I used to love exploring the factory floor of my Father’s engineering company and always knew I’d follow him into that line of work, being technically minded it was an obvious choice. 25 years later and after setting up my own engineering business I decided the future was brighter online and forged a new career on the world wide web.

Don Estelle (does that count?)

Favourite holiday destination

The Alps, New Zealand or anywhere generally scenic and mountainous but I do also love the UK, it has a lot to offer.

Life motto

Branson’s “Screw it, let’s do it” sums up how a lot of us would be better off taking a little more risk and perhaps making more mistakes but equally not missing opportunities as a result.

What skill would you most like to learn?

I’d love to be more musical but I’m tone deaf and have absolutely no rhythm so I’d be a challenging student to say the least.

Relocating to Leicestershire from Liverpool, John heads up our hardworking development team. A highly skilled and experienced programmer, John works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of our technical infrastructure. His experience spans big PLC newspapers to working on websites for the likes of Comic Relief and Everton FC.

What did you want to be growing up?

A doctor. That wore off by the time I hit senior school and by A-level time I knew I would end up in programming of some form.

Favourite holiday destination

Mexico, Riviera Maya - honeymoon destination and probably the best holiday I'll ever be able to afford.

Mike heads up our customer service and sales teams, and as our sales director plays a key role in helping to drive the business forward. Friendly and approachable, Mike joined us after working for energy giant British Gas for over 7 years. A qualified butcher (yes really!) if he could try out any job for a day he’d like to be the boss of MI6 – he likes to be in the know!

Favourite holiday destination

Cornwall. It’s the best spot ever. Peaceful, fab restaurants, epic beaches and brewers of Doom Bar ale.

What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done?

Bungee slingshot! I was fired into the air attached to two bungee cords. It was brilliant fun.

Schindler’s List – the best piece of cinematography ever/Superfreakonomics - economics, theory and philosophy…made comical and thought provoking/and Match of the Day is a must watch whenever it’s on.

Chris heads up the digital marketing team at Holmes Media and has recently joined us. He's currently putting together a formidable team to ensure we continue to generate more volume and better leads for our customers. Chris has a background in digital agency leadership and retail management, bringing a useful blend of people and digital skills to the role. You'll often hear him saying "was there a Google algorithm update yesterday?".

If you could try out any job for a day what would it be and why?

Marine biologist working on the Great Barrier Reef. I've always had a fascination with nature and it would be rewarding to work in conservation in some way. Oh and I'd love to (cage) dive with sharks.

What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done?

Had a track day and tested 3 new sports motorcycles and was clocked at 177mph on one of them. I'll not do that again.

Have you met anyone famous?

Not really, but a band I was in once supported Reef and The Hoosiers. Does that count?

What’s your guilty pleasure?

80's Rock and the odd power ballad.

What skill would you most like to learn?

A foreign language or two. Starting with Italian.

I like being around positive people and it's full of them. Oh, and the free fruit.

Self-motivated, organised and a perfectionist at heart, Nic is passionate about gaining excellent customer satisfaction. Prior to joining our expanding empire Nic worked for retail giant Next for over 5 years. A go to person for fashion tips and retail advice, she's Holmes Media's very own Gok Wan!

What did you want to be growing up?

I've always been really interested in the police and was originally going to university to study criminology. But later I decided not to go to university and began a career in retail instead.

Favourite film/book/TV show

The Vow or The Notebook are always good to watch. My favourite book is The Time Traveler's Wife. As for favourite TV show it has to be Friends; it never gets old!

Favourite holiday destination

I went to Los Angeles with my best friend for 4 weeks when I was 16 and that was amazing! There is always something to do, whether that's Universal Studios, Disneyland or just sunbathing on Santa Monica beach.

What's your guilty pleasure?

I love Disney films. I think you can never be too old for a Disney movie!

What would you do if you won a million pounds?

I would buy a really nice house in a quiet little village with a big garden. I'd also get a fast convertible car. And go on a massive shopping spree too.

With more than 10 years of telesales experience, Helen has fine tuned her communication and listening skills. Since joining us she has quickly established herself as an integral part of our friendly customer service team. A whiz on the telephone, Helen spends most of her day qualifying sales leads. In fact, because she's pretty much permanently attached to her headset we affectionately refer to her as Princess Leia because of her buns!

What's the scariest thing you've ever done?

Probably meeting Noel Edmonds! I also swam in the vicinity of a very big shark when I was on holiday. That was pretty scary, although it didn’t put me off going back in the water!

If you were a prime minister for a day what would you change?

I would make higher education free for everyone.

People who queue jump, hangovers and automated phone menus with too many options.

I think Stephen Fry, Angelina Jolie and Damien Hirst would make for interesting guests.  And I’d cook them something meaty, to compliment the meaty conversations the three of them would bring to the table.

I’d love to learn how to create hyper-realistic drawings. It’s where art appears so lifelike it’s like looking at a photograph rather than a drawing.

One of Ellie’s biggest bugbears is bad customer service. Not surprisingly it’s ours too. Which is why Ellie is the perfect fit for our sales team.

What did you want to be growing up?

An author. I was always making up stories and scribbling away.

If you could try out any job for a day what would it be and why?

I'd be a wildlife photographer or filmmaker, somewhere exciting and exotic like the Serengeti or in a rainforest. I imagine it would be great to capture amazing images and share them with the world.

What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done?

I once did a skydive in New Zealand from 12,000 ft. which was scary but exhilarating. In all honesty though, the scariest thing was probably taking my driving test.

Cape Town, it's got everything: amazing people and vibes, culture, beautiful beaches, stunning mountains, a variety of wildlife, vineyards… the list goes on. I love it out there.

I’m lucky to have done lots of travelling. Thailand is my favourite and I would go back in a heartbeat. I love Phuket, because despite being a health and safety nightmare the place is naturally beautiful and relaxing.

Don’t tell my kids but I love Celebrity Juice. It’s even funnier after a glass of wine!

I’d introduce free quality childcare for pre-school children and scrap university fees. I think every child deserves a good education.

Before joining us as an Account Manager here at Holmes Media, Adam previously worked in recruitment. He supervised teams in the call centres at Staffline for 7 years before moving on to work in onsite account management for Barker Ross for a year. Adam brings plenty of energy to the office and tries to keep active but he admits it can be a little difficult when you have young ones – his two little boys Oscar and Ben.

Jeremy Beadle came to my Primary School fate. I had a photo taken with him which I still own and bust out on special occasions.

What skill would you most like to learn?

How to cook. It would make my family very happy as I’m limited to heating things up in the microwave and making toast.

Prior to this she did something a little different – selling wedding dresses at a bridal boutique in Leicester! In her spare time Vicky stays occupied with skiing, running or going to watch the Leicester Tigers play.

In the pub I used to work in I met Jarvis Cocker from Pulp… and Dick and Dom once on a train.

Before joining us here at Holmes Media, Tanel worked in Estonia for a company focusing on web based software development and prior to that was an intern for a database development business.

What did you want to be growing up?

My father is a truck driver so I wanted to follow in his footsteps and drive all over the world. This was before I got my first computer. I still like driving though.

Japan. I've only been there once but I'd go back any day. There's just so much to see and do in that crazy country. And they serve octopus on sticks.

If you could try out any job for a day what would it be and why?

I'd like to try piloting a fighter jet. I mean, how hard can it be?

Probably flying over the Grand Canyon in a helicopter, our pilot kept reading his manual as he didn’t seem to understand the controls and played Elvis really loud the whole trip.

I would start by banning the jeering and booing in the House of Commons, it’s not a panto.

Matt has a background in web design & development, in fact he’s been creating websites since back in his GCSE days where he used to write HTML by hand in notepad! His career has had a strong lean towards design and IT roles (except for a stint running pubs!), and over the past few years Matt has focused his efforts towards web design. Most recently he was a Web Systems Manager for CMI, before coming to join us at Holmes Media.

What did you want to be growing up?

A video game designer. Although I never quite got there (I am currently developing my first game though) it was that dream that got me into design & coding.

What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done?

Bungie jumped off a bridge.

Favourite holiday destination?

Lake Garda, Italy. I was married in a Castle there in a town called Malcesine…it was legendary!!

Favourite film would be ‘Interstellar’, book would be any book in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series and favourite TV show was Battlestar Gallactica (reimagined series…not the cheesy original)

Hayley has a degree in Creative Writing with English and has always worked in roles centred around writing. She’s been a freelance Reporter for an art promotion website, a Copywriter for a TV shopping channel and even a Bid Writer in the debt enforcement industry! Her longest role was as Marketing Manager for an independent charity for disadvantaged children, Ride High, who use horses to build their skills, confidence and improve future prospects.

What did you want to be growing up?

I loved the idea of travelling the world in a ‘David Attenborough style’ and studying animals, maybe working in sanctuaries or conservation projects. Plan B was to own a cattery!

Have you met anyone famous?

Jeremy Vine is the patron of the charity I used to work for, Ride High. I met him a few times but strangest of all the meetings was in Hyde Park in London. I took several photos of him in various creative poses, pretending to share a carrot with an imaginary horse that we Photoshopped in later! Strange looks to say the least.

What skill would you most like to learn?

Really impressive, professional ice skating - it looks like flying!

If you could try out any job for a day what would it be and why?

I love to write short stories, especially for children, so if would be a successful children's author and spend the day giving readings at schools or playgroups.

Favourite animal

Cats will always have the edge. I also have a fascination with birds of prey; it makes my month when I see an owl!

What's the best thing about working at Holmes Media?

It’s clear that lots of effort has gone into making it an enjoyable place to work, right down to the small things like coffee and fruit! They clearly value their staff and that’s created a positive, motivated team.

After studying Computer Science in California, James - along with his partner - started a small digital agency in Luton specialising in SEO and paid traffic. After just 12 months with no external investment, James had grown his agency to a 6 figure business providing numerous digital marketing services to over 30 clients. In an effort to seek out a more healthy work-life balance, James has since sold his agency and we're happy to have him join our ever-expanding marketing team here at Holmes Media.

What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done?

I've parachuted, swung through a canyon in NZ, and bungee jumped. But the scariest is when, due to the cold, my regulator froze open during my first ever open water SCUBA dive at Stoney Cove. Luckily I wasn't too deep and the instructor had a spare. But people die there all the time, so pretty scary !

Autumn. Things just start to look cooler. And pubs start putting their fires on.

The people are awesome! But it has to be the business model. Qualified hot leads are the life-blood of any business. Being able to deliver these types of leads every day to businesses that rely on them - well it makes you feel all warm inside.

Laura joins us as an apprentice, splitting her time between Holmes Media and her Business and Social Media college course. Having studied Interactive Media at college and having a keen interest in digital marketing, Laura has dived into working on a range of projects, including content creation and social media.

What did you want to be growing up?

I went through many stages of wanting to different things; hair dresser, social carer, to anything design related. I've alway had a passion for designing and media, but the main thing I wanted to be growing up was a disney animator or anything to do with disney to be quite honest (sad i know).

Turkey - I love the heat.

If you could have a super power for a day, what would it be?

If I could have any superpower it would have to be the ability to read people's minds, I’d just love to know what people truly think of me and what goes through other people's mind. I think it'd be so interesting.

Favourite season has got to be winter I love being able to curl up in loads of covers. Although I’ll probably be complaining when it gets really cold and I'm out!

For the last 9 years Asish was working for Northgate Info Solutions/Public Services as a Software Test Analyst. He was involved in testing a variety of applications used by social care authorities to manage their various related activities. This included working with on-shore teams in Milton Keynes/Bracknell and also off-shore colleagues in Mumbai/Chennai. Previous to that Asish has done software testing, some programming, and systems analysis for a range of organisations.

What did you want to be growing up?

He brings plenty of experience to our development team with 10+ years commercial experience, gained after he graduated with a degree in Computer Science and an MSc in Computational Intelligence and Robotics. In his spare time Antonios teaches Aikido, and has founded a PHP user group in Nottingham.

Currently enjoying the Marvel films and series.

What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done?

Climbed to the top of the Eiffel Tower, during my honeymoon. A bit of a challenge as I don't do heights.

What would you do if you won a million pounds?

Travel the world and particularly spend some time in Japan. Then come back to the UK and open a full time dojo.
